2009 Best of Music List

My musical tastes are all over the map. I am not a huge pop fan but every so often something will catch my attention. Country is not my go to music but there are definitely country musicians I admire and listen to. Ultimately, it is about the sound. Sometimes I hear something and know within a few beats, I am going to love this. Other times it will take a while for something to grow on me. I am also surprised every year by a few albums that blow me away and then over time I am less enamored with them. The Mountain Goats were the prime example of this. I could not stop listening to the new album when it came out but by the end of the year I was barely listening to it anymore.

I think the only thing I like more than writing is listening to music. Truthfully, I don’t think I would like writing half as much if I wasn’t listening to music while making words dance for me. I love looking at people’s best of music lists. I scour them for someone that I might have missed and every year I find someone new and interesting. I hope my readers can do the same with my lists. I tried ranking them but the truth is I couldn’t. I liked each of them for vastly different reasons and depending on my mood they would rise or fall on the list.
