Keepers Week 6
Projects, projects, projects. I have a lot of them going on right now. I finished the conversion to WordPress and am extremely happy about it (well other than I have had a huge drop in readers. I hope they find their way back to the blog. I will miss them). I am working on getting a cover designed for my first novel and a collection of my Zombie holiday stories. I have to write five more zombie holiday stories and, of course, my novel. There is simply not enough time in my day to get all the things done I want (it doesn’t help that I feel like I am coming down with a cold).
I have a few ideas for my new zombie stories and hope they translate on paper. I am looking forward to returning to the world of my zombie dad. I am going to feel in time from the first year. At some point I plan on having a year two for zombie dad and his family. So far I haven’t really been able to come up with a satisfying plot thread for year two to write it (I will be letting the holiday gimmick go for year two).
Meanwhile, back at the Keepers ranch everything is cruising along at a very good clip. I will pass the 50,000 word mark in the novel this week. I am guessing this will be about half way for the whole novel. I am having so much fun writing it. I also think it is a very good sign that I am looking forward to going back and rewriting. A lot of interesting plot threads have manifested over the last few chapters. I am going to go back and seed a few of them earlier in the book.
This week I wrote a really critical part of the back story for a main character. It will eventually lead to two of the main story lines connecting. Even more important I think it gave a main character a chance to reveal himself to the reader. I have shrouded him in a little mystery up until this point. I am not trying to be too slick though. I am fairly certain anyone who reads this book is going to have a lot of “aha” moments. I have tried really hard to leave clues and suggestions as to what is going on.
I have decided to reread George R.R. Martin’s A Game of Thrones (I will probably reread the whole series) to help me with multiple points of view (plus, the new book is coming out in July so this will give me a refresh). I think Martin is truly a master at changing points of view. Since my story relies heavily on multiple points of view I wanted to read a book where I felt it was done perfectly. My very own little novel writing school.
I am still on a good pace and should finish the first draft of this book by the end of April. Then I am going to do a quick edit and maybe send it out to a few select readers. While it is getting read I will probably start book three of my Dark Lands trilogy. Since I have decided I am going to put the trilogy out on the Kindle, I figured I better get the last book written. Like I said, much to do. At least I am keeping myself busy. You wouldn’t want me out there roaming the streets drinking cappuccino. That’s no life for me!
