The Dark Lands Book 2 Week 2
Week 2 has gone smoothly. The story is coming together nicely and I feel good about the direction I am taking the story. My characters continue to surprise me. The process of writing has gone from something I struggled to stay consistent with to something I look forward to doing everyday.
As I was updating my word count on my blog yesterday I chuckled at how far I have come since the first book. I remember when I hit 10,000 words on the first book. I was so excited that I posted on Twitter. This continued to be my routine every time I hit a nice round number. I hit 10,000 words on book 2 and didn’t even blink. Knowing that I have already written 80,000 words has given me the confidence to not worry about word counts.
I also love that I am always thinking about writing. The plot and story are constantly running through my head. I wake up in the morning thinking about the story. I go to sleep at night thinking about the story. It is like the writing part of my brain has gone into overdrive. It is better than coffee. When I finish writing for the day I am always jazzed. As soon as I hit the save button I start thinking about tomorrow’s writing.
On the 1st book front, I have not heard from the first agent I sent the book off to but I am not sweating it. I didn’t expect much for the first submission. I am also having two more people go through the book for typos. It will be as close as I can get it to typo free. Once I hear from the first agent I will decide what I am going to do next with book 1.
I have not missed my daily writing goal on book 1 or book 2 and feel confident in my ability to hit my deadlines. That being said I should be done with the first draft of book 2 around October 1. I almost feel like a real writer.
