The Dark Lands Week 12

The first edit is done. I have turned over the 430 manuscript pages over to my wife and will now take a week off from writing the Dark Lands. I have decided on the title for the first book. I am going with The Shadow Men. I have continued to read the story to my class and so far have been happy with the way it sounds. I have been making some notes as I read and will add those in after I get the book back from my wife.

I have been going over the story in my head and I am pretty sure that this sequence is going to be three books. I know where I am going in the next two books and feel pretty confident that I will be able to finish the second book before the end of the year.

I have started looking through submission guidelines for agents and after I let a few people read it I will make changes and start sending it out. I hold no great illusions but I didn’t write it so that it would be filed away and not see the light of day. I have been using Locus Magazine to keep track of sales in the fantasy publishing world and I will probably start with those agents and work my way down the list.

If by some incredible circumstance something happens with this story I have an idea for a sequel trilogy that I think will work pretty good. It came to me this week as a little “what if” and then kind of stuck in my head. Now it won’t go away. I am glad that it is there because it actually gives me a guide post for the next two books in this trilogy.

I have to admit that I am extremely proud of myself. I don’t know how good it is but I loved writing it. I am really enjoying reading it to my class. I told myself that I was going to except no more excuses about not writing this year. I set a goal and met it. Between the book and my blog I almost feel like it’s okay to call me a writer. An amateur writer, but will keep working on the professional part.

This weeks preview from the novel:

The raver moved slowly towards them. Josh began moving left. He wasn’t going to make it easy for the raver by standing in the same place as Bolo. He glanced at Bolo and saw the look of pure hatred on Bolo’s face. If he was a black coat he was faking it well. The raver looked at Bolo and then Josh. The raver growled and then sprinted right for Josh. Leaping into the air with a snarl it landed on Josh. Josh felt his feet slip on the ground and he was suddenly tumbling backwards. The raver began snapping it’s jaws at Josh’s neck. Josh reached up and tried to push the raver away. Drool from the raver’s mouth splattered on Josh’s face. Josh didn’t think he could hold it back much longer.
